At Animal Hospital of Salinas, we take all anesthetic cases very seriously. We thoroughly screen all of our patients to make sure there are no hidden complications by performing exams before every anesthesia and requiring minimum baseline lab testing based on species, breed and age. We utilize a pain management plan tailored to your pet's needs and the procedure being performed, which reduces post-operative pain and reduces the depth of anesthesia we use, which increases safety. All of our patients who undergo procedures of more than 5 minutes have an IV catheter and fluids to help bolster their blood pressure. We use extensive monitoring of our patients under anesthesia, using our ECG, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and temperature monitors. One of our medical team is assigned to your pet, from initial exam, through pre-anesthetic medications, anesthesia and post operatively. For your pet’s safety, we only perform one surgical procedure at a time. We use an objective pain scoring system in order to make sure that, if your pet is in pain, they immediately get the relief they need.

Surgical procedures performed by Animal Hospital of Salinas include:

  • Spays
  • Neuters
  • Emergency surgery (laceration repair, wound repair, foreign object removal)
  • Soft tissue/general surgery(i.e., growth removal)
  • Feline declawing (in cases where medically necessary or if all alternatives have been exhausted)
  • For orthopedic surgery we have a board certified orthopedic specialist come to our hospital to best serve your pet

Our surgical procedures include:

  • Fully trained veterinary and technical staff to ensure the safest, most efficient state-of-the-art procedures for your pet
  • Heated surgery tables for greater comfort
  • Advanced sterilization techniques
  • Electronic vital sign monitors which are monitored at all times by trained staff
  • Intensive after-surgery care

Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring

We utilize the safest, multi-modal anesthesia techniques available and provide the same level of patient monitoring that you would receive if you were having surgery. During surgery, we monitor all of your pet’s vital signs with state of the art equipment as well as manual techniques

We recommend pre-surgical blood work so we can evaluate your pet’s kidney, liver and heart function prior to undergoing anesthesia.

Pain Management

Your pet’s pain relief is our top priority. At Animal Hospital of Salinas, we ensure your pet has minimal pain before, during and after their surgery. We utilize multiple therapies to control pain so that your pet is as comfortable as possible until they are fully recovered.
